Sunday January 23, 2005 was a very dark day for the FDNY. For the first time in memorable history the FDNY lost 3 brothers at two separate fires during the course of the day. FF John G. Bellew of Ladder 27 and Lt. Curtis W. Meyran of Battalion 26 were lost in the line of duty while battling fire in the Bronx. FF Richard T. Sclafani of Ladder 103 was lost in the line of duty while battling a fire in a East New York private dwelling. This is tremendous blow to both the FDNY and the fire fighting community. Our hearts and prayers are with the Bellew, Meyran and Sclafani families in these dark hours. We also ask that you pray for the rapid recovery of the five other brothers who sustained serious injuries while operating at those same boxes.
